Michael Simon Claims Championship at Valentine’s Day Boxing Showdown

South Moreton Boxing Club presented the “St Valentine’s Day Massacre” on February 15, 2025, a night of fierce competition dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the Cornermen, a charity supporting men’s mental health. The main event showcased a Light Heavyweight Championship clash where Michael Simon from ‘Ol Mans Boxing’ battled the resilient Josh O’Brien. Ultimately, Michael Simon emerged victorious, claiming the championship title.

The Championship Fight

Michael Simon, backed by a boisterous away crowd, made a memorable entrance, singing and energizing the audience. However, the hometown favorite, Josh O’Brien, known for his unwavering toughness and relentless fighting style, was determined to defend his territory. Adding a playful touch to the rivalry, Coach Joe Howard selected “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” by Culture Club as O’Brien’s entrance music.

The championship fight was a grueling contest that spanned four action-packed rounds:

Round 1: The taller Simon began by utilizing his jab, maintaining distance while O’Brien relentlessly stalked, seeking the opportunity to unleash a powerful right hand. Towards the end of the round, Simon found his range with his own right, yet O’Brien absorbed the blows, never faltering despite a slip that momentarily put Simon on the canvas.

Round 2: O’Brien surged forward with furious aggression, prompting Simon to respond with a swift combination from the back foot. The turning point arrived when Simon connected with a massive right hand, forcing a standing eight count against O’Brien. Simon pressed his advantage, leading to another count just before the bell, but O’Brien shook it off, displaying the heart of a true warrior.

Round 3: The intensity escalated as both fighters traded blows at close quarters. Simon’s elusive movements allowed him to find his mark with the right hand, but O’Brien absorbed the punishment and continued to press forward, undeterred.

Round 4: The fighters touched gloves in a show of respect before resuming their battle. Simon, working from the ropes, landed a series of clean right hands. Despite O’Brien’s incredible resilience, Coach Joe Howard made the difficult decision to stop the fight, saving his fighter from further punishment. O’Brien, though unwilling to yield, respected the decision.

Post-Fight

Michael Simon acknowledged O’Brien’s exceptional toughness and experience. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and coaches, and looked forward to defending his newly acquired title7.

The “St Valentine’s Day Massacre” was a resounding success, delivering a night of unforgettable boxing action while championing an important cause. With Michael Simon crowned as the new champion and Josh O’Brien’s toughness on full display, the event left a lasting impression on all who attended.
